Lost? We're here to help!
A lot of students ask us questions about Integrated Sciences or life in general and we thought, why not compile them all to help others out as well? So here we are! Welcome to our FAQ page.
Before you start scrolling through our FAQ, we'd just like to point out that in IntSci faculty already has an FAQ that has a ton of helpful information regarding the Integrated Sciences program here at UBC! Feel free to check it out.
What is Integrated Sciences?
Integrated Sciences is a unique program run at UBC that allows IntSci students to develop their own curriculum, i.e. their own set of courses, based on an overarching theme of integrating scientific disciplines of their choice. The chosen curriculum must clearly integrate at least two disciplines. In particular, the curriculum must not substantially mirror any existing degree program. Integrated Sciences focuses strongly on integration across disciplines. To help students realize their integration IntSci offers a number of courses specially designed to foster integration through self-directed learning and hands-on projects. Classes are small and often team-taught to encourage participation and highlight different perspectives.

When is the best time to start my IntSci application?
We always say, the earlier, the better. The hardest part is researching what you want and putting it into words to form your vision statement. The part that takes slightly longer is working with your mentor and the advisors to finalize your vision.
What are some suggestions you have for eating on campus?
- The Delly always has a wide variety of healthy choices! On Fridays around 4pm, a lot of their food goes on sale for half price. Who can say no to cheap food?
- Additionally, on Fridays between 11:30am to 1:30pm, Sprouts hosts Community Eats. You simply need to bring a small donation and reusable container and in return, you get a healthy lunch!
- On Tuesdays Triple O's on Main Mall has $3.33 burgers.
- Otherwise, Tim Hortons (there are two on Main Mall) is always fairly reasonable. Ice caps for the win!
How do I find a mentor?
Simply e-mail any of the available mentors from the list provided here. You can also reach out to any professor that is pursuing a field of interest that intrigues you and ask them to join Integrated Sciences mentor team. More information about contacting and working with your mentor can be found here.
How long does the IntSci application process take?
Depending on how long it takes you to revise your application, it generally takes 2-3 months.
